Thank you so much for including me in this super cool project.
Great project! I came across your sight today from a link on relaxshacks.
ReplyDeletei thought you might be interested in the story of
Dick Proenneke a retired diesel machanic from iowa. Who in 1967 spent the summer exploring the Twin Lakes region looking for the ideal site to build a cabin and cutting logs that he would use the next year.
Dick Proenneke returned to Twin Lakes on May 21, 1968 and began turning the raw logs into his cabin.
Dick Proenneke built his cabin using only hand tools, no backhoes, no chainsaws, no electric drill, just hand powered tools. Dick even made many of his tools himself. There's all kinds of info out on the web about him. good luck with your projects.
Dick's story/documentary film (often on PBS)- "Alone In The Wilderness"- is incredible. My four year old son asks for me to put it on all the time now too...a very inspiring film.
ReplyDeleteAmen! Mr Proenneke is one of my heroes. If you look on the sidebar of the blog there is a link to "Alone in the Wilderness." On top of everything else he accomplished he filmed most of that footage himself using a tripod and an old home movie camera. Amazing ... just amazing.
ReplyDeleteI'm delighted to have found your blog. I shall feature it if you have no objections, on mine in coming days... through you I found The Blog of Henry David Thoreau... what a nice surprise that was. I've been living that man since about 1970. He and his philosophy are with me every day...
ReplyDeleteKind wishes.
Keith
Thank you Keith
ReplyDeleteNo objections at all. I'm enjoying reading your blog. Keep up the good work!
